Anyone who has ever invested anything into camera gear will know the reality of lens envy. And if you haven’t experienced it yourself, just listen for the whispered (or not so whispered) comments as you pass someone on a trail who is toting a big piece of glass. You’ll undoubtedly hear the words, “Did you see that lens?”
Or perhaps you’ve been a silent witness to two photographers that meet up while pursuing the same owl at sunrise. After the initial greetings, one will most certainly turn the conversation to camera gear. “What lens are you shooting with?” Or “Is that the new (insert the hottest camera gear item)?”
It certainly seems that we have an obsessive curiosity about what camera gear others are using. I suppose that perhaps it is a sort of measure of our own validity as photographers. After all, aren’t most photographers carriers of the dreaded imposter syndrome gene? I’d best leave that topic for another time!
So, whatever the source of your interest is, I know that I am often asked about my camera gear. And before your curiosity gets the best of the cat, I’ll share what I am currently using.
